Business Of Graphic Design

DSN1537 -- It is important that the graduating student gain an appreciation for the realities of business. With particular emphasis on the business of design, but applicable to business in general, the day to day realities of the business world are discussed. This includes issues ranging from ethics to hourly rates, hiring and employment concerns, and the protection of intellectual property. The course involves preparation of proposals, tracking of work in progress and includes visits by appropriate support professionals. Working in groups, students form their own company and prepare and present a business plan.

Your Price is Too High

It is unwise to pay too much.
But it is worse to pay too little.

When you pay too little, you sometimes lose everything;
because the thing you bought was incapable of doing the thing it was bought to do.

The common law of business balances prohibits paying a little and getting a lot.
It cannot be done.

If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run. If you do that, you will have enough to pay for something better.

There is hardly anything in the world that someone cannot make a little worse and sell a little cheaper. People who consider price alone are this man's lawful prey.

John Ruskin (1819-1900)
