The site comprises material covering computer graphics, prepress production, publication design and the business of Graphic Design. This is only a part of the Graphic Design Program at the College. Other areas include the theory of graphic design, typography, interactive design and visual dynamics.
This site primarily exists to serve curriculum material to students in the Graphic Design program at Algonquin College, in Ottawa, Canada. The original reasons for posting this material on the Net are accessibility, portability and editability. Above all, I just can't see myself using paper any more. It seems too permanent.
The content includes written project parameters, skills-based podcasts and various support file downloads. Combined, these recources comprise all the material needed for students to do their assignments. When students attend class, they receive theoretical information to support the execution of the projects. This information is crucial to success. So if you actually need to enrol at the College to benefit from this valuable info. You'll actually earn a pretty diploma, assuming you succeed in this very demanding program!
Students at the College need to visit DesignSchool often, since the site serves the course curriculum. The site contains a news feed. The feed announces graphic design related job openings, school events, course news and other news.
Administration at the College can keep abreast of what's happening in the Computer Graphics realm in the Graphic Design program.
DesignSchool.ca uses various technologies to deliver content to visitors. Basic assignment parameters are generally written on the pages. Software skill are explained and demonstrated in podcasts. The video segments are in ".m4v" format. To read these files, you need the QuickTime plugin installed in your browser. It'll be there by default.
