  • It is due at the start of class 12.
  • You will design a new logo for C.A. Paradis.

DELIVERABLES

Why Change?

C.A.Paradis has continuously evolved with, even ahead of industry trends and market changes. The catalyst for this re-branding is to increase recognition of the business' purpose. More fundamentally, it is to give it a more descriptive name. C.A.Paradis does not say what the company does. The Chef's Paradise does. The new name has the advantages of including the known family name and conveying more meaning.

The New Name

The Chef's Paradise

Le Paradis du chef

The Slogan

The identity may be accompanied by the slogan below, when appropriate.

Since 1921

depuis 1921

Bilingualism

With a French name like Paradis, the business identity needs to translate cleanly to French. Le Paradis du chef has the same meaning as the English.

You'll need to design a solution that works in English, French and with both together. Neither can appear more or less important than the other.

About C.A.Paradis

C.A.Paradis has been in business since 1921. They are at once an Ottawa landmark and a forward-looking supplier of culinary supplies and equipment. They are the place to go for culinary amateurs and pros alike.

The appeal of the store is in the hands of the owner-operators and in the unique product mix. People like to walk the product-packed aisles of the store and talk to the ever-present owners. There is an intense appeal in buying kitchen products in the same store the pros shop in.

The company has two major focus areas: commercial sales and retail sales. Commercial sales include planning of kitchen layouts for restaurants, institutions and more. They sell large equipment and utensils. The retail area sells small appliances and utensils you use in your home kitchen.

The Creative

The style of the logo should be appropriate to the type of company. It is at once a 87 year old company and a trend-setting culinary arts supplier. It must reduce to one colour without losing meaning or detail.

The client has requested rooster imagery to be included. The rooster is a symbol of home cooking. See this page for more information about rooster imagery.

The identity must be a combination mark. It should be produced in black first. We'll apply colour later.

Terms

There will be a $500 prize given to the winning design. These are the terms of the competition:

  • A $500 cheque will be given to the winning designer by C.A. Paradis.
  • C.A.Paradis will own the designs upon payment.
  • The winner will be chosen by Pierre Paradis and employees of the company.
  • C.A.Paradis reserves the right to not use any of the designs.
  • The winning design may be adapted for final use.
  • C.A. Paradis will grant the student the opportunity to execute the above adaptations.

How to Get an A

Creativity (50%)
How creative is your representation of the rooster and the type? Have you taken an original approach to the perspective, cropping, style, character/personality? Is your type selection appropriate and well executed?
Execution (25%)
Is the identity well drawn? The illustrations on which your logo are based should demonstrate proficiency. The vector illustration should be as clean as possible. It should be executed with the proper software tools in a skilled manner.
Does your logo reduce to small sizes well? Does it reduce to a single colour without losing any of its essential attributes?
Presentation (25%)
Is the presentation of the final project clean, accurate and original?
